Plancraft raises €38M series B for AI construction software

German construction technology company plancraft has completed a €38 million Series B funding round led by Headline, with existing investors Creandum, HTGF and xdeck participating. The round brings the Hamburg-based startup’s total capital raised to more than €50 million as it seeks to expand its AI-powered software across European markets.

The funding comes as Europe’s construction sector grapples with dual challenges: workforce shortages and mounting pressure to reduce carbon emissions. Construction accounts for 40% of global CO2 emissions, while the industry faces an aging workforce that is shrinking faster than new workers can be trained.

Voice-First Approach to Construction Software

Plancraft’s software centers on voice interaction rather than traditional interfaces that have historically required extensive training. The company’s approach allows construction workers to communicate with the platform using natural speech patterns, reducing the learning curve that has hindered technology adoption in the trades.

The only software skill you need is your voice” represents the company’s core philosophy of making technology accessible to field workers who may lack extensive digital training.

Current Market Penetration

More than 20,000 tradespeople across European markets currently use plancraft’s platform. However, this customer base represents a small fraction of the nearly 4 million construction companies operating throughout Europe, indicating substantial room for expansion.

The company reports rapid adoption rates when workers can interact with technology through voice commands rather than complex user interfaces. This approach addresses what plancraft identifies as a fundamental disconnect between how construction software has been designed and how construction work actually occurs.

European Expansion Strategy

The new capital will fund plancraft’s expansion into Austria, the Netherlands, and Italy through dedicated local teams. The company aims to create what it describes as a unified pan-European platform connecting construction professionals across national boundaries.

The market tailwinds paired with the impact of AI specific to this end market, can have a dramatic change to the industry across Europe” said Trevor Neff from Headline in a statement about the investment.

AI-Powered Back-Office Operations

Beyond field applications, plancraft plans to develop AI capabilities for administrative tasks including customer relationship management, quote generation based on real-time material costs, and workforce allocation optimization. The company envisions what it calls a “zero-admin” future where artificial intelligence handles routine business processes.

This expansion into back-office functions targets small and medium enterprises that cannot afford dedicated administrative personnel for tasks that AI systems could potentially automate.

Regulatory Environment and Timing

European governments are implementing building retrofit mandates to meet climate targets while the construction industry simultaneously faces acute labor shortages. This regulatory environment creates demand for productivity-enhancing technologies that can help existing workers accomplish more with available resources.

The company has grown to more than 100 employees while maintaining its Hamburg headquarters. Plancraft emphasizes three core values in its scaling approach: enthusiasm for bringing AI to an underserved industry, collaborative teamwork across markets, and respect for the expertise of construction professionals.

The timing of this funding round coincides with what plancraft characterizes as a convergence of market demand, technological maturity, and urgent industry needs that creates favorable conditions for AI adoption in construction.
