PropHero has landed €2.5 million in financing from BBVA Spark as the Australian-founded proptech company accelerates its European expansion with Spain as its new operational headquarters.
The digital real estate investment platform secured the funding to strengthen liquidity and support ambitious growth targets, including plans to double business volume by the end of 2025. The transaction receives backing from the European Union and European Investment Fund through the InvestEU programme.
Strategic Pivot to European Markets
PropHero’s geographic shift reflects a calculated bet on European demand for digital investment services. The company, which launched in 2021, now operates across four countries and serves more than 10,000 active users through its data-driven platform.
The startup has facilitated purchases of over 1,800 properties, with performance reportedly exceeding broader market returns across Europe, Asia, and Australia. This track record comes as traditional real estate investment faces increasing digitization pressure.
Miguel Ángel Alcalá, BBVA Spark’s head in Spain, emphasized the strategic fit. “PropHero exemplifies the kind of digital, ambitious company BBVA Spark aims to back, as it can have a real impact on the sector“ he said, highlighting the firm’s artificial intelligence-powered approach to democratizing real estate investment.
Operational Restructuring Underway
The funding announcement coincides with significant organizational changes. PropHero dismissed most of its Australian workforce while relocating marketing operations to Spain, signaling a definitive strategic realignment toward European markets.
Despite this shift, Australia remains important to PropHero’s business model. The company reported revenue growth exceeding 50% and expanded its team by 40 members over the past six months, demonstrating sustained momentum.
PropHero co-CEO and co-founder Pablo Gil described BBVA Spark’s support as fundamental for scaling operations and meeting rising demand as the company advances its technology-driven transformation of real estate investing.
BBVA Spark’s Startup Strategy
The investment aligns with BBVA Spark’s focus on high-growth, scalable technology firms with global ambitions. The banking unit, launched in 2022, provides lifecycle-appropriate financing ranging from basic banking services to structured finance options like venture debt and asset-backed lending.
PropHero’s platform analyzes market trends and optimizes property selection for investors, positioning the company alongside established European real estate technology players. The AI-driven approach addresses growing demand for sophisticated digital investment tools.
The company aims to establish itself as a leading artificial intelligence platform for European real estate investment, leveraging its technology stack to capture market share in Spain’s evolving proptech landscape.
