Smart Infrastructure Ventures raises €30M second fund

Smart Infrastructure Ventures has secured €30 million for its second fund, marking a significant milestone for the Leipzig-based venture capital firm as it expands its footprint in the German startup landscape. The SIVentures II fund represents the firm’s continued commitment to backing early-stage technology companies across artificial intelligence, software development, and enterprise solutions.

    Strong Fundraising Momentum

The fundraising process has gained considerable traction, with more than 75 percent of the target amount already committed. This achievement comes on the heels of the firm’s first fund, which closed successfully in 2024 and delivered notable returns through strategic exits.

The capital injection originates from a diverse investor base spanning German companies, banking institutions, family offices, successful entrepreneurs, and funds of funds. This broad support base reflects growing confidence in the firm’s investment strategy and track record.

Proven Track Record Drives Investor Interest

The firm’s fundraising success stems partly from its demonstrated ability to identify and nurture winning startups. Two exits have already materialized from the first fund generation, including the acquisition of Leipzig-based digital health company mementor by US medical technology corporation ResMed.

“We have already recorded two successful exits, such as the sale of the Leipzig-based digital health startup mementor to the US medical technology group ResMed. This significant exit after a short period of time has naturally had a positive impact on our fundraising for SIVentures II” ~ Dirk Frohnert, Managing Director of SIVentures.

Additional portfolio successes include cybersecurity firm Enginsight from Jena and customs technology startup traide AI from Berlin. Collectively, these portfolio companies have generated more than 300 employment opportunities within Germany, demonstrating the fund’s economic impact beyond financial returns.

    Strategic Investment Focus

The new fund maintains a targeted approach toward business-to-business startups operating in pre-seed and seed stages. Four investments have already been completed across artificial intelligence, software development, and enterprise software sectors, with additional prospects currently undergoing due diligence processes.

The investment strategy centers on the DACH region, encompassing Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The fund plans to support approximately 30 startup teams through initial investments reaching up to €500,000 per company, allowing for meaningful early-stage participation while maintaining portfolio diversification.

    Experienced Leadership Team

The venture capital firm operates under seasoned leadership with more than two decades of combined investment and entrepreneurial experience. Founding partners Björn Bauermeister and Dirk Frohnert bring complementary backgrounds from prestigious financial institutions.

Bauermeister previously served as a trader at BNP Paribas across New York and London offices, while Frohnert held fund management responsibilities at JPMorgan in London. This international experience provides valuable perspective for evaluating and supporting portfolio companies seeking global expansion.

“As an active investor, we not only offer startups capital, but also see ourselves as a proactive sparring partner” ~ Björn Bauermeister, Managing Director of SIVentures.

The leadership team receives support from investment manager Falk Trietsch and maintains strategic partnerships with experienced industry players. Notably, the firm collaborates closely with SpinLab group, which operates multiple accelerator programs throughout Germany and maintains extensive partnership networks.

    Market Opportunity and Future Outlook

The fund’s launch coincides with increasing demand for early-stage capital among technology startups in the DACH region. The focus on artificial intelligence, software infrastructure, and enterprise technology aligns with broader market trends toward digital transformation and automation across industries.

The firm’s hands-on approach extends beyond financial investment to encompass strategic guidance and operational support. This value-added model aims to accelerate portfolio company growth while reducing execution risks common among early-stage ventures.

With the second fund’s substantial progress toward full deployment and the management team’s plans to double the investment volume compared to the inaugural fund, Smart Infrastructure Ventures appears well-positioned to expand its influence within the German venture capital landscape. The combination of proven exits, experienced leadership, and strategic focus suggests continued momentum for the firm’s investment activities.
